About Dr Kwok Shiu Ming And His Global Works
Dr Kwok Shiu Ming received his Honorary Doctorate in Buddhism in Kandy, Sri Lanka on February 4th 1989.
The title, officially recognising Dr Kwok as a “Master of Dhamma”, was conferred by the council of the Asgiriya chapter of the Maha Sangha of the Siamese Sect (Siam Nikaya).
It was bestowed in recognition of Dr Kwok’s promotion, propagation and practice of both the Theravada and Mahayana systems of Buddhism in Hong Kong, China, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka and various other countries.
Sri Lanka
Dr Kwok has led humanitarian and cultural projects in Sri Lanka, including funding purified water systems and pipeline networks for rural Buddhist temples and communities. He also supports large-scale food donation and education sponsorship programs.
India
Through the International Centre For Sakyamuni’s Culture and the Asian Buddhist Peace Council, Dr. Kwok has promoted Buddhist education, supported temples, and sponsored publication of Dharma texts in India.
Malaysia
Dr. Kwok has longstanding cooperation with the Malaysian Buddhist communities, promoting interfaith cultural exchange and sponsoring Buddhist charity activities.
China
In 1988, Dr Kwok founded the International Centre of Sakyamuni’s Culture in Hong Kong and later helped establish a new centre in Meizhou, Guangdong. He has led translation of key Buddhist texts into the Chinese, French, English, and German languages.
Georgia
At the invitation of Mikhail Gorbachev, Dr. Kwok advised on the reintroduction of Buddhist and ethical culture in former Soviet states such as Georgia, aligning Buddhist philosophy with social recovery.
Russia
As a diplomatic cultural figure, Dr. Kwok worked with leaders in Russia to support Buddhist development and moral education initiatives in post-Soviet society.
